The Church and Church Services

The church is the oldest surviving building in many local communities. Especially in rural areas it plays a key role in local identity, as well as serving its original function as a religious building. Church buildings can be used to trace changes in the meaning of Christianity in Denmark from the 1100s to today. Among these are the way Lutheran ideas contributed to changes in church interiors, where we can also sense a time when the church was far more central to people’s lives both spiritually and secularly than it is today.
